What's unique
What's unique about our project.
Direct contact: We are fortunate to have an English speaking contact, Bounchan Her, from the village who provides updates and feedback via WhatsApp. Without Bounchan there would be no project. Bounchan managed and coordinated the purchase, transport, and installation of 40 solar generator sets. He also put together the toilet proposal – click here.
No overhead: Although GoFundMe charges a 2.9% fee, and Western Union adds small transfer fees, "angel investors" absorb these costs so 100% of your donation goes to the project.
Immediate results: Once a project becomes feasible execution will occur as fast as funds are available. The solar generator project, for example, started with a proof-of-concept on June 23rd, 2018 and finished in mid-January, 2019.
Money goes a long way in Laos, and being only about 250 km from the Chinese border results in good prices for many items. The 120 W solar generator sets cost only $290 Cdn in 2018 ($230 USD today) which at the time was perhaps as low as one-quarter to one-third of North American prices.
